Prof. Mark Stables has been studying Martial Arts for almost fifty years.
He began at the age of eight when his Parents enrolled him in the Hatashita Judo club under Sensei Frank Hatashita. He competed in his first tournament at the tender age of nine winning a silver medal.
Through the course of his Life he studied a wide variety of styles including Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan Karate, Boxe Francais, Traditional Jiu Jitsu, Muy Thai and finally for the past twenty years, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA.
Prof. Stables holds a Black belt in Go Rin Do (way of five rings) which he received in 1997. A progressive system based on the principals and techniques of Tae Kwon Do(Moo Duk Kwan), Karate do, Savate, Ju Jitsu and Yoga.
In 1994 he was first exposed to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through Royce and Rorian Gracie and a few years later Carlos and Rigan Machado. in 1998 he met Master Marcus Soares 8th degree who would become his primary instructor and had his first meeting with Grand Master Carlson Gracie 9th degree. He has been a member of Carlson Gracie Team for almost twenty years.
Prof. Stables has competed internationally and in 2004 travelled to Brazil where he competed in the Copa do Mundo (world Cup). He finished the tournament without having a single point scored against him and losing the Gold medal by referee decision.
Retired from Competition Prof. Stables now resides in the Riviera Maya still flying the flag of Carlson Gracie Sr. he also has affiliate schools in Toronto and St Thomas Canada.
